Bank holidays and changes to public transport services

Below there is a list of all the dates when HSL public transport will operate to special timetables. Please note that changes are possible for instance during school holidays or due to public events.

Monday 5 January 2026 On the eve of Epiphany, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate according to day‑specific routes and timetables.
Tuesday 6 January 2026 On Epiphany, a Sunday service will operate.

Monday 16 February – Friday 20 February 2026 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the school holiday timetables.

Sunday 29 March 2026 Switch to summer time: the clocks will go forward one hour at 3am. Saturday service will operate to winter time, including early morning services. Beginning from Sunday morning, services will operate to summer time.

Thursday 2 April 2026 On Maundy Thursday, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday 3 April 2026 On Good Friday, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
Sunday 5 April 2026 On Easter Sunday, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Monday 6 April 2026 On Easter Monday, a Sunday service will operate.

Thursday 30 April 2026 On Thursday 30 April, a Friday service and additional services will operate. The Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run approximately two hours later than usual. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday 1 May 2026 On Friday 1 May, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Friday and Saturday. Additional services will also operate on certain routes.

Wednesday 13 May 2026 On the eve of Ascension Day, Wednesday 13 May, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Wednesday service.
Thursday 14 May 2026 On Ascension Day, a Sunday service will operate.

Saturday 30 May 2026 On the last day of school, school bus routes and night buses will run with additional services, if necessary. In addition, the Metro will run approximately two hours longer than usual.

Monday 1 June – Friday 12 June 2026 School bus routes will not operate at all or run according to the school holiday timetables or summer timetables. 

Monday 15 June 2026 Switch to summer timetables.

Thursday 18 June 2026 On Thursday 18 June, a Friday service will operate. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday 19 June 2026 On Midsummer Eve, Friday 19 June, a Saturday service will operate. However, U-line buses will operate a reduced service from the afternoon onwards.
Saturday 20 June 2026 On Midsummer Day, Saturday 20 June, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night buses will operate on the night of Saturday, 20 June. U-line buses will operate a reduced service.

Monday 10 August 2026 Switch to winter timetables.

Sunday 25 October 2026 Summer time ends and the clocks will be set back at 4am. Services according to Saturday timetables will operate according to summer time, which also applies to early morning services. Services operating according to Sunday timetables will start according to standard time (winter time). If necessary, additional night services will operate.

Saturday 31 October 2026 On All Saints’ Day, Saturday 31 October, a Saturday service will operate. U-line buses will operate a Sunday service. There will be additional services to the Hietaniemi cemetery.

Friday 13 November – Saturday 12 December 2026 During the pre-Christmas holiday season, night buses will run with additional services on Fridays and Saturdays, if necessary. In addition, the Metro will run approximately two hours later than usual.

Sunday 6 December 2026 On Independence Day 6 December, a Sunday service will operate.

Monday 21 December 2026 – Tuesday 5 January 2027 If necessary, buses, trams and the Metro will operate a reduced service during the holiday season between Christmas and Epiphany due to decreased demand. School bus routes will not operate at all or run to the school holiday timetables. The start date of the Christmas holiday varies from municipality to municipality.

Thursday, 24 December 2026 On Christmas Eve, a Sunday service will operate. U-line buses will mainly operate a Saturday service, but a reduced service will operate from the afternoon. Trams and R trains will operate a reduced service from 4pm. There will be additional services to the Hietaniemi cemetery.
Friday, 25 December 2026 On Christmas Day, 25 December, a Sunday service will operate approximately from 11am. U-line buses and trams will operate a reduced service. Commuter trains will operate a reduced service on Christmas Day morning, a normal Sunday service will operate from 11am. The Suomenlinna ferry will operate a Sunday service throughout the day.
Saturday, 26 December 2026 On Boxing Day, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday, 31 December 2026 On New Year’s Eve, a Friday service and additional night services will operate. The Metro and commuter trains on the Ring Rail Line will run approximately two hours later than usual. However, neighborhood bus routes will operate a normal Thursday service.
Friday, 1 January 2027 On New Year’s Day, a Sunday service will operate. Additionally, night services will operate on the night between Friday and Saturday.
