Information for cyclists

Cycling is a fast and emission-free way to get around, easy to combine with public transport. What’s more, cycling is great for fitness. City bikes are a good alternative to using your own bike; you can hop on a city bike in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa.

Plan your route

Use our Journey Planner to find the best cycling route to work or to plan a weekend bike ride. Click on the bike icon to get suggestions for cycle routes.

Leave your bike at a Park & Ride

You can easily combine cycling and public transport: leave your bike at a Park & Ride and continue by train, bus, metro or tram. Bike parking is free of charge and there are no time limits.

You can view the locations of Park & Ride sites and the number of bike parking spaces on a map.

City bikes

City bike season starts on 1 April and ends on 31 October. During the season, you can register as a city bike user for a day, week, month, or the whole season. The Journey Planner shows city bike stations, the number of bikes available and routes to the stations in real-time.

Bike Parking Service

Register to activate the Bicycle Parking Service and park your bike in the Kaisantunneli Bicycle Garage in Helsinki! You can access the garage using your HSL card and PIN code, or with an Android phone using the Google Wallet HSL Bicycle Parking identifier.

Bicycles on public transport

You can take your bike with you on commuter trains, the Metro and on the Suomenlinna ferry. Bicycles are not allowed on buses and trams because there is no room for bikes to be carried safely.

Folding bikes, bikes for children under school age, and children’s mobility aids can be carried on all modes of transport.
