We have partnered in numerous events across the capital region. We collaborate with event organizers to arrange public transport tickets and organize public transport services. We also use our own channels to provide passengers with information on event-related traffic arrangements.

HSL’s tips for event organizers on using public transport to travel to events.

Make public transport appealing

Instruct event attendees to follow HSL’s channels

We often arrange additional public transport services to larger events and inform passengers about possible additional services through our own channels. We help guide attendees to the event and provide information on the best routes and connections.

For example, we provide information on the easiest and smoothest ways to reach the event through our news bulletins and social media and on the information screens on public transport vehicles. You can encourage attendees to use the Journey Planner for up-to-date information on traffic disruptions.

Show the route to the event location

Add the free Journey Planner search component to your website. With the help of the component, attendees can easily search for the best route to the event location and examine timetables in real time.

Here’s an example of how you can describe the Journey Planner on your website: The Journey Planner guides you to the best route and shows you the real-time locations of public transport vehicles. It also tells you which ticket you need to buy. We recommend searching for your route using the date of the event. This helps ensure that you have the most current information on services and possible disruptions.

You can use the Journey Planner in a browser and in the HSL app.

Encourage to use contactless payment

Provide information on Park & Ride

Park & Ride enables combining different modes of transport when arriving at the event, which will reduce congestion near the event area.

Here’s an example of how you can describe Park & Ride on your website:

If you are planning on arriving by car, check if it’s possible to leave your car at a Park & Ride. You can park your car close to a station or stop and continue your journey to the event area conveniently by public transport. With a valid HSL ticket, you can leave your car at a Bike & Ride at an affordable price or even free of charge.

If you are planning on arriving by bike, check if you can use the bike parking locations near the stations and travel part of your journey by public transport. You can leave your bike at a Bike & Ride free of charge for an unlimited period of time. HSL’s Journey Planner helps you find the best cycling route to the event location. You’ll get route suggestions by selecting “bike” among the modes of transport in the Journey Planner.

Additional transport services for public events

If necessary, we provide additional public transport services to public events and divert routes in case streets need to be closed or some other traffic restrictions are imposed due to the event.

We must be informed of any need for additional transport services or route diversions at least two months before the event.

How do we arrange additional transport services?

HSL provides public transport services that are open for everybody, primarily in accordance with the regular route network. When arranging additional transport services, we use additional vehicles, add new departures, or extend the service hours of individual services, if necessary. We arrange additional services on the basis of the estimated number of passengers and, for instance, the time when the event ends.

How to notify us of an event

We request that you notify us of an upcoming event at least two months in advance by email at infra@hsl.fi.

The following information must be included in the notification:

Name of the event and organizer
Event location
Estimated number of participants
Event schedule
Contact details of the person in charge of traffic arrangements
Entrances to and exits from the event area depicted for instance on a map
Information on whether the event is going to cause restrictions to the surrounding traffic routes.

In return for arranging additional services, we expect HSL to be featured in the marketing materials for the event in question and that event attendees are encouraged to use public transport when traveling to and from the event. Additionally, we may also require some other form of compensation, such as free tickets.
