HSL area and zones

The HSL area consists of HSL's member municipalities: Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen, Siuntio, Kirkkonummi, Sipoo, Kerava and Tuusula.

The HSL area is divided into five zones, labeled A, B, C, D and E, which extend outwards from the center of Helsinki.

Ticket options

Which ticket do I need?

Before buying a ticket, check which zones you will travel through and make sure your ticket is valid for all required zones.

In zones A, B, C, D and E, you need an AB, BC, CD, DE ticket, depending on the area you travel in. NB! There are no single-zone tickets for zones A, B, C, D and E.

You can see the zone boundaries on a map in the route search. The route search also tells you which ticket you need for your journey.

HSL to introduce new zone E on 2 June 2026

The new zone E will include Järvenpää and the northern parts of Tuusula.

You can see the detailed information of zone E on our website.

Combining tickets for one journey

You can combine different tickets for the same journey, and the tickets do not need to be purchased in the same way.

For example, if you have a season ticket, you can extend your travel area affordably by purchasing a single ticket to complement your season ticket.

Neighboring municipalities

Residents of the neighboring municipalities can buy season tickets at the same price as residents of the HSL area. Correspondingly, residents of the HSL municipalities can purchase commuter tickets for some of the neighboring municipalities.
