HSL area and zones

The HSL area is divided into four zones, identified by letters A, B, C and D, spreading out from the center of Helsinki.

How to buy HSL tickets?

HSL app

Buy tickets, check routes and stay updated about any service changes.

HSL card

Top up your HSL card with a season ticket or value to buy single tickets at card readers. You can top up your card at the online Ticket Store or at sales and service points.

Contactless payment

Buy adult single tickets with contactless payment on board public transport or at stations.

Top up your HSL card at the Ticket Store

You can top up your HSL card online at the HSL Ticket Store anytime, anywhere. 

Paper single and day tickets

You can buy single and day tickets at sales points as well as at the HSL and municipal service points. Additionally, companies and groups can order tickets in advance. The tickets include a QR code that must be shown to card readers.

Visit a sales or service point

At sales and service points, you can top up your HSL card and purchase single and day tickets. At the HSL and municipal service points, you can also purchase a new HSL card and manage other HSL card-related issues.

Ticket machines are being phased out

For now, tickets can still be purchased at HSL ticket machines located at key transport hubs.

Penalty fare and other fees

Penalty fare

Remember to buy a ticket! If you do not have a valid ticket, you will be charged a €100 penalty fare in additon to the price of a single ticket. When using the HSL app, you must have a ticket on your phone before boarding a bus, tram or commuter train, or entering the Metro or ferry payment area.
