By authenticating you verify both your identity and your HSL account

This page contains information about strong authentication. You only need to authenticate once. If you have already purchased tickets that require strong authentication or have an HSL card, you have probably already completed strong authentication. You can check your authentication status under “My information” in your HSL account.

Why authenticate?

Strong authentication is needed to verify your identity, HSL account, customer group, and home municipality. This ensures you receive the correct ticket products at the right price, as this information affects, for instance, the price of season tickets. It also helps keep your contact details up to date.

Where can you authenticate?

You can authenticate:

  • On our website by logging in to your HSL account using your credentials.
  • In the HSL app, logged in with your HSL account
  • At the HSL or a municipal service point

You may be asked to complete strong authentication when using services if you have not done so yet and it is required. For example, if you want to top up your HSL card in the HSL Ticket Store, the store may prompt you to complete strong authentication.

What do you need for electronic authentication?

We use Suomi.fi authentication. You can authenticate using your personal online banking credentials, a mobile certificate, an ID card with a citizen certificate, or the hightrust.id mobile app. More information Suomi.fi.

Authenticating at a service point

At the HSL or a municipal service point, you will need to present an ID document. A guardian can also authenticate on behalf of a child using their own ID.
