The use of multi-user HSL cards and old personal HSL cards will end

Multi-user HSL cards will stop working on 21 September at around 10pm. Please use the remaining value on your multi-user card as soon as possible and then switch to using the HSL app.

Additionally, personal HSL cards that have not been used in a long time will also stop working on 21 September at around. This does not apply to your card if you have topped up the card with season tickets or value, or used the card to purchase a single ticket at a card reader in 2023, 2024, or 2025. In this case, you can continue to use your personal card as usual.

Why will the multi-user HSL cards be discontinued?

The use of multi-user HSL cards will end because we are in the process of implementing a new background system for public transport tickets. The new system entails a simpler ticket range, which will no longer feature separate multi-user and personal HSL cards.

When will the change take place?

Multi-user HSL cards and personal HSL cards that have not been used for a long time will be discontinued from 21 September. The cards will stop working at around 10pm. If you have topped up your personal HSL card with season tickets or value, or purchased single tickets with your card at a reader in 2023, 2024, or 2025, you can continue using your card as usual.

What is the difference between a multi-user HSL card and a personal HSL card?

Multi-user and personal HSL cards look identical. If you are sharing your HSL card with someone else, it is most likely a multi-user card.

A personal HSL card can only be used by the owner of the card. A multi-user HSL card is designed for shared use and can be used by anyone holding the card who belongs to the same customer group (adult or child). Multi-user HSL cards are primarily used by companies, organizations and schools.

What options do children have?

Children aged 7 to 17 can download the HSL app to their phones free of charge and use it to purchase single, day and season tickets. To buy season tickets, the child must have their own HSL account, which can be created in the HSL app. Creating an account requires strong authentication using the child's own online banking credentials or mobile certificate. In other words, the child must have their own online banking credentials or mobile certificate to create an HSL account.

You can also purchase a personal HSL card for your child. The card can be topped up with season tickets or value for buying single tickets. Personal HSL cards can be purchased at HSL or municipal service points. You can top up the card with value or season tickets at ticket machines or at sales or service points.

How can I buy a ticket for a child travelling with me?

What happens to unused value or tickets?

If there is any remaining value on your disabled HSL card, we will refund the value or any unused tickets. You can request a refund via our website starting 23 September. We will provide detailed instructions on how to claim your refund at a later date.

Please note that once multi-user HSL cards and personal HSL cards that have not been used for a long time are disabled, they will no longer work at card readers, and you will not be able to see the value balance or tickets remaining on the card at a card reader. We recommend that you check the value balance on your card in good time and use any remaining value.

Tickets for companies via HSL Business Portal

Companies can use the HSL Business Portal instead of the multi-user HSL cards. The portal is an easy-to-use online service intended for companies and communities for ordering, issuing and managing their personnel’s commuter benefits and tickets for business travel. Employees can use their tickets and benefits in the HSL app.

For employers

We recommend that you use up any value you have on your multi-user cards and then dispose of the cards with mixed waste. After this, you can start using the HSL Business Portal and provide your employees with tickets that they can use directly via the HSL app.

For employees

For now, you can continue using your multi-user HSL card as usual. However, as the product will be discontinued, we recommend that you talk to your employer about products that you can use to replace the multi-user cards. In the future, you can get tickets directly to the HSL app.
