Multi-user HSL cards and old personal HSL cards are no longer in use

Multi-user HSL cards and personal HSL cards that had not been used for a long time were discontinued on 21 September 2025. It is no longer possible to claim a refund for these cards. Refunds for unused value or tickets could be claimed until 31 December 2025.

If you have topped up your personal HSL card with season tickets or value or have used the card to purchase a single ticket at a card reader in 2023, 2024, or 2025, you can continue to use the card as usual.

Why were certain HSL cards discontinued?

Following our ticketing overhaul, we simplified the array of tickets and removed HSL cards that had not been used for a long time as well as all multi-user HSL cards from our system. All HSL cards are now personal and can be easily topped up online in the HSL Ticket Store.

What is the difference between a multi-user HSL card and a personal HSL card?

Multi-user and personal HSL cards look identical. If you are sharing your HSL card with someone else, it is most likely a multi-user card.

A personal HSL card can only be used by the owner of the card. A multi-user HSL card was designed for shared use and could be used by anyone who was holding the card and belonged to the same customer group (adult or child). Multi-user HSL cards were primarily used by companies, organizations and schools.

What options do children have?

Children aged 7 to 17 can download the HSL app on their phones free of charge and use it to purchase single, day and season tickets. To buy season tickets, the child must have their own HSL account, which can be created in the HSL app. Creating an account requires strong authentication using the child's own online banking credentials or a mobile certificate. In other words, the child must have their own online banking credentials or a mobile certificate to create an HSL account.

You can also purchase a personal HSL card for your child. The card can be topped up with season tickets or value for buying single tickets. Personal HSL cards can be purchased at the HSL service point or at a municipal service point. You can top up the card with value or season tickets easily in the HSL Ticket Store or at sales or service points.

Tickets for companies via HSL Business Portal

Companies can use the HSL Business Portal instead of multi-user HSL cards. The portal is an easy-to-use online service intended for companies and communities for ordering, issuing and managing their personnel’s commuter benefits and tickets for business travel. Employees can use their tickets and benefits easily in the HSL app.
