Download from your app store

You can download the HSL app for free from your app store. Open the AppStore or GooglePlay on your phone and search for “HSL”. You’ll recognize the app by its blue HSL logo.

Tickets to suit your needs

• Single tickets for individual journeys
• Day tickets for multiple journeys within a short period of time
• Season tickets or multi-journey tickets (only available via the app) for regular travel. Requires an HSL account and strong authentication.

Tip! Season tickets are also available on a subscription basis. In this case, your ticket is automatically renewed and always valid. If you commit to a season ticket for a year and set up an auto-renewing saver subscription, you’ll get the ticket at a lower monthly price.

HSL account and strong authentication

You can buy single tickets and day tickets for 1 to 3 days without an HSL account. However, we recommend creating an HSL account to access the full range of tickets and all app features.

To buy multi-journey tickets and season tickets, you need an HSL account. You must complete strong authentication using your online banking credentials or mobile certificate.

Please note that children need their own HSL accounts to use the app. To buy season tickets, children must also complete strong authentication using their own online banking credentials or mobile certificate. Read more about children's tickets and other advice here.

• Debit or credit card (VISA, VISA Electron, Mastercard and Amex)
• MobilePay
• Mobile payment – tickets are charged to your phone bill (for purchases under €50; a payment method fee of 1.6% applies)
• HSL Commuter Benefit
• Edenred, Smartum, Epassi and Zevoy

Phone and operating system

For the best experience, we recommend using the HSL app on a smartphone running Android 9.0 or later, or iOS 15.0 or later. We cannot guarantee optimal performance and stability on older devices.

If you wish: HSL account and strong authentication

If you wish, you can use the HSL app as a guest without creating an HSL account. As a guest user, you can buy single tickets and day tickets for 1 to 3 days.

We recommend creating an HSL account to access all app features: the full range of tickets, as well as updates about any changes or disruptions affecting your selected routes, stops or areas.

Please remember that your ticket must be visible in the HSL app before you board a bus, tram or train, or enter the Suomenlinna ferry pier.

When using the Metro, your ticket must be on your phone before entering the payment area. At most Metro stations, the payment area begins at the card readers located at the top of the escalators to the platforms.

Your phone must have enough battery power for the entire journey. You may be issued a penalty fare if your ticket is activated on your phone while already on board a vehicle, on an escalator down to a Metro station or on the ferry pier, or if your ticket cannot be inspected because your phone is out of battery.

When boarding a blue bus, show the HSL app ticket display to the driver. On ferries, commuter trains, the Metro, trams and the orange trunk route buses, you only need to show your ticket if asked by a ticket inspector or conductor.

Always use the app in its default theme. The HSL app does not currently support dark mode. On some phone models, you can override the app’s light default theme, but if you do, ticket inspectors will not be able to read the app’s QR code.

Students, pensioners receiving a pension from Kela, people over 70 years, and people with reduced mobility who live permanently in the HSL area can buy HSL tickets at a discounted rate. In addition, children aged 7 to 17 can buy tickets at a discount. Depending on the ticket type and customer group, the discount applies to season, single, and zone extension tickets, available either via the HSL app or on the HSL card.

The following discounts are available either via the HSL app or on the HSL card:

• Students: you can buy season tickets at a 40 percent discount either via the HSL app or on your HSL card. Read more about the student discount.
• People aged 70 or over: you can buy season tickets at a 40 percent discount either via the HSL app or on your HSL card.

• Children aged 7 to 17: you can buy child tickets at a 50 percent discount either via the HSL app or on your HSL card. Read more about tickets for children.

The following discounts are available only on the HSL card:

• Pensioners receiving a pension from Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland): you can buy season, single, and zone extension tickets at a 50 percent discount using your HSL card. Read more about senior tickets.
