Ticket Store opened on 24 September; new backend system now in use

HSL cards can once again be topped up online. Our new ticketing backend system enables new options for digital transactions and self-service. Furthermore, the enhanced digital sales system offers greater flexibility, enabling us to develop new services more agilely to meet future needs.

Tickets can be purchased using the HSL app, HSL card readers, the online HSL Ticket Store, and at sales and service points.

This page contains information about the changes and new services brought about by the ticketing overhaul.

Quick and easy ticket purchase with contactless payment

You can use contactless payment for adult single fares. Simply select the zones and show your debit/credit card to the card reader. The ticket will be stored on your card, and you can board. Tickets purchased with contactless payment are valid on all HSL transport services, including buses, trams, the Metro, commuter trains, and the Suomenlinna ferry.

Top up your HSL card online

The new HSL Ticket Store is now open. You can top up your HSL card with season tickets and value anywhere, anytime. The Ticket Store is easy to use: it guides you step by step. Tickets are available for all zones and customer groups. You can also top up someone else’s HSL card, such as your child’s, parent’s, or friend’s.

Season tickets and value purchased online will be available on your card immediately after purchase, and can be used on all HSL public transport.

Large ticket machines have been permanently closed

Contactless payment is available on all HSL public transport and the new HSL Ticket Store for online top-ups of HSL cards is open. Following these changes, the large ticket machines for topping up the HSL card were removed from service on 21 September.

Multi-user and old personal HSL cards no longer in use

Multi-user HSL cards and personal HSL cards that have not been used since the beginning of 2023 were disabled on Sunday, 21 September, and can no longer be used. If you have any remaining value or unused tickets on your disabled HSL card, you can request a refund until 31 December 2025. Read more

If you have topped up your personal HSL card with a season ticket or value, or if you have used it to purchase a single ticket at a card reader at any point in 2023, 2024, or 2025, you can continue to use your card as usual.

The HSL app is the most convenient alternative to a disabled HSL card. You’ll find tickets for all your travel needs in the app. You can download it to your phone for free from your app store.

QR code single tickets and day tickets

You can buy single tickets and day tickets in paper form at sales and service points. These tickets include QR codes. Tickets for 2 to 13 days are available via the HSL app or by order for companies.

If you still have disposable cardboard cards that you have purchased at a sales or service point, you can use them until the end of 2025.

Changes to the range of season tickets

We have simplified our range of season tickets. Season tickets for 60 days and for 120 to 270 days have been removed from the ticket range. Additionally, 90-day season tickets are only available for HSL cards at sales and service points. The popular 14-day, 30-day, and 360-day season tickets can be purchased as before.

New readers replace the old ones

We have replaced all card readers on public transport and at stations. Initially, tickets are purchased on the new card readers just like before, using the value on the HSL card. First, you select the zones and then present your HSL card to the reader. Contactless payment will be introduced later.

The main change is that the new card reader shows the zone buttons on two screens in zones B, C, and D. You can move between the screens using the arrow on the right side of the screen.

All existing ticket options will continue to be available: single, multi-journey, day, and season tickets can all be purchased via the HSL app. A new online HSL Ticket Store will be opened, offering season tickets and value top-ups for the HSL card. Single and day tickets will continue to be available from R-kiosks and service points, as well as S-market, Alepa, and Prisma stores. In addition, single tickets can be purchased at card readers using contactless payment. More information about tickets and ticket prices
