Large ticket machines to be removed from service

You can now buy adult single tickets at card readers onboard public transport and at stations with contactless payment. We will also soon open a new, improved online HSL Ticket Store for topping up the HSL card. Following these changes, we will remove from service the large ticket machines designed for topping up the HSL card. This page contains information about the removal of the ticket machines.

When will the large ticket machines be removed from service?

According to our current plan, the large ticket machines will be shut down on 12 May, when we begin transitioning to the new backend system. Once the transition is completed, we will open the new HSL Ticket Store. Our goal is to open the store on 14 May. The schedule is contingent upon the successful completion of system tests. How to identify the ticket machines that will be removed from service

If a ticket machine is operational, you can buy tickets from it.

The machines that are being removed from service are tall, almost entirely blue, and can be used to top up HSL cards. We will display information about the closure on the screens of the ticket machines to be closed. Once a machine is no longer in service, you will not be able to buy tickets from it. Eventually, these machines will be covered until they are entirely removed.

Smaller HSL ticket machines will remain in service for the time being

HSL tickets can still be purchased from the small HSL ticket machines.

The small ticket machines are mainly located at tram stops or train stations. They only sell adult and child single tickets, and some also offer day tickets.

Additionally, adult and child AB, ABC and ABCD single tickets can still be purchased from some parking ticket machines in Helsinki. These can be identified by the HSL sticker.

Where to buy tickets in the future?

You can buy tickets using the HSL app, via the new HSL Ticket Store (HSL card top-ups), at card readers with contactless payment, and at sales and service points. Additionally, smaller ticket machines will still be available for ticket purchases for the time being.

You can find information about different tickets and discounts, as well as up-to-date prices on our Tickets and fares page.

All tickets conveniently via the HSL app

You can buy, for instance, single and season tickets using the free HSL app. The app provides the widest range of tickets, including multi-journey tickets. The app also provides you with routes, the latest public transport news, service updates and information about disruptions.

To purchase certain tickets via the app, such as season and multi-journey tickets, you will need to authenticate strongly using your online banking credentials. Some discount tickets, such as tickets for recipients of Kela’s national pension, are only available on the HSL card.

Top up your HSL card online

In the future, you can top up your HSL card online with season tickets for all zones or add value for purchasing single tickets at card readers on board public transport and at stations. Tickets purchased via the new store will not need to be transferred to your HSL card after purchase at a card reader. Initially, you will only be able to top up your personal HSL card. However, later on, it will also be possible to top up other people's cards; for example, parents can top up their children's cards. According to our current plan, this feature is expected to be available in August.

Our goal is to open the new Ticket Store on 14 May, once we have transferred our services to the new backend system. According to the current plan, the transfer is set to begin on 12 May. The schedule is contingent upon the successful completion of system tests.
